Dating by the Black Sea
Constanța is Romania’s main port and one of the oldest cities in the country, founded as the Greek colony of Tomis. Its old town, with the restored Art Nouveau Casino on the seafront, faces the Black Sea, while the Mamaia resort stretches north along a long sandy strip. The Ovidius University, the port and maritime industries keep a year-round population, and navy and shipping work brings in people from many backgrounds.
The city has two rhythms: summer, when Mamaia is full of holidaymakers and clubs, and the rest of the year, when Constanța becomes a calmer regional city. English is common in tourism and shipping, and many young people speak it well.
Choosing a platform in Constanța
Our Romania ranking sites are in Romanian:
- be2: our top pick, matching by personality, free test and paid contact.
- eDarling: for a serious, long-term relationship.

Tinder, Bumble and Badoo offer free chat with matches. In summer they fill up with visitors from Bucharest and abroad; outside the season, they mostly show residents.
Where to meet people in Constanța
The old town around Ovid Square (Piața Ovidiu) and the seafront promenade by the Casino are pleasant for a walk and a drink, especially at sunset. The Tomis tourist port has restaurants and bars with sea views.
In summer, Mamaia is the place to be, with beach bars, clubs and terraces along the sand. Mamaia Nord is a little more relaxed. Lake Siutghiol, behind the resort, is good for water sports and a quieter evening by the water.
Out of season, Ovidius University students keep some bars busy, and sports clubs, sailing and running groups help residents meet people. Language exchanges and cultural events are smaller than in Bucharest but exist.
Etiquette and safety
Constanța is easygoing, but summer nightlife can be hectic. Watch your drink, stay with friends late at night and plan how you get home. Meet any new match in a public place, tell someone where you are going and never send money to someone you met online.
Summer versus the rest of the year
Your experience in Constanța will depend heavily on the calendar. From June to August, Mamaia’s beach clubs and terraces draw crowds from all over Romania, and the apps are busy with people on holiday. From autumn to spring, the city returns to its residents, many of whom work in the port, shipping, the navy, healthcare or education.
If you are looking for something lasting, the quieter months are often the better time to start: people have more time, and the profiles you see belong to people who live here.
